numbness and soreness
Question:
I have suffered with herpes for over 10 years. I contracted the disease from my ex-husband. I used to have outbreaks quite frequently, seeming to be triggered by my menstrual cycle. Then for the last 2 years I had very few outbreaks, almost forgetting that I had the infection. Now for the last month I have had muscle soreness and numbness from my buttocks through my calf on the right side of my body. I know it is related to the herpes, but I haven’t had any sores at all. I take a generic acyclovir pill every day for suppression. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this type of recurrence. Any comments will be appreciated.

The short answer: yes. And my guess is that you are having prodromes, the signs that warn of an impending ob- but you can have prodromes which never culminate in an actual ob. I switched to a stronger antiviral (Valtrex) when these symptoms (and others) became especiallly pesky, and that really helped. You could also try lysine, vitamin-C, the usual nutritional suppliments. But I put my faith in good old-fashioned *drugs*!!! Hope this is useful.. HUG, April

thanks for the reply, April. Do you know if ‘FAMVIR’ is equivalent to Zovirax and Valtrex? I keep seeing that mentioned in the postings here. I can’t believe I’ve missed all this information for so long. I’m grateful that I stumbled onto this newsgroup.

Its a prodrug in a similar vein to Valtrex. A second generation antiviral. Unlike Valtrex the active drug component released in the body is penciclovir, not acyclovir. Tim When playing rugby, its not the winning that counts, but the taking apart ICQ: 5178568
