Testing for HSV
Question:
Dear Musashi, the Western blot Test is considered the most reliable test to date. You can find info about it at viredea.com
Yup, Mary is right, WB is the most reliable……check out the following sites for all the info you need on getting the test. www.viridae.com http://weber.u.washington.edu/~herpes/ Good Luck! Chili – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – This does seem to be herpes if it is recurent in this maner and the apearance sounds about right. Tests are also more acurate if done from a culture directely from the lesions. I am sorry to hear that you have gotten this but it gets easier to deal with in time. Keep coming around and you will find a lot of good support here. Love, mary I am new here and also new to the whole HSV thing. I had my first outbreak at the beginning of this year (Genital) I noticed about six small pimples at the base of my penis that eventually oozed and scabed over. My girlfriend and I were concerned so I went to the Doc and he suspected it was Herpes. I took a culture and I was relieved to have the results comeback negative. Unfortunatly my story doesn’t end here. A few months later, I had a second outbreak that came and went within a week. With the girlfriend no longer in the picture, I just shrugged it off as a skin rash. My third outbreak was a month ago and I went to the doctor again (a different one) and he said it was herpes. I asked if we should test it and he said no. I told him of my previous test and he said that they can be unreliable. Acyclovir cleared it up in about two weeks. Now I am on my fourth outbreak and am pretty convinced this is Herpes, But how can I be sure? Has anybody heard anything on test reliability? Alternative means of controlling the virus? Thanks

The Western Blot test is done at the University of Washington, it is the only place that does this test that I have heard of. They are the founders of this test. Here is the website, you can print out the info to give to your doctor so he can send the blood test in for you. The cost is about $95.00 and takes about 14 days for results. http://weber.u.washington.edu/~herpes/ I have not had an accurate test result either and plan to have my doc do this test next week. It is very frustrating not knowing for sure even though all the signs are there. Good luck to you, to me, to all of us ! <holding hands Deb — Posted via Talkway – http://www.talkway.com Exchange ideas on practically anything ™.
